We will see the 8th anniversary of this great meditative run through the hills and meadows of historic Camp Roberts Army National Guard Reservation in north San Luis Obispo County along the fertile Salinas River Valley. Marathon and half marathon to begin at 8:30 AM, 6:30 for walkers, 8:45 for 5k.
Starting at 750' above sea level the course goes out and back rising to 1250'; most of the climb between miles 4 and 6. It is quiet and serene with wildlife spectators, a flock of sheep, spectacular views, training and research sites, aid stations every 2 miles and porta potties every 3 miles.
Revenue helps fund the athletic programs at Lillian Larsen Elementary School of Kindergarten to 8th grade students. Larsen features cross country and track and field for all children, then flag football, volleyball, basketball, and golf for the middle schoolers grades 6 to 8.
Entry fees, tournament fees, referee costs, uniforms, equipment, physicals for 8th graders entering high school, and summer camp scholarships are the focus of this race.
Camp Roberts is 5 miles north of San Miguel on Highway 101 and is midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco in California's rich, fertile Salinas Valley.
If you are driving from Los Angeles, Orange County, or San Diego, you'll want to take the 5 Freeway North to Highway 46. Head West on Highway 46 for 61 miles, then bear right and head on to the 101 Freeway North. Just of the 101 Freeway, click here for an excellent map.
From Sacramento or San Francisco, it's just as easy. For detailed directions, check use the map at Google Maps, by clicking here.
